Pre-Kindergarten Class

Our Pre-Kindergarten class is designed to prepare students for kindergarten while continuing to foster the need for open ended play, exploration, and collaboration. The Pre-K class is ideal for ages 4-5 and children must be 4 before Sept 1 in order to enter the Pre-K class as this class is intend for students who are entering kindergarten the following year. Within this class, we use the Handwriting without Tears program and the Pocket of Preschool curriculum. This allows our students to learn in various ways using manipulatives, writing tools, letter building and songs. Our goal is to nurture each child's love of learning and allow children to be explores of the world around them. Each week we focus on a different theme within the classroom and themes are often based upon the children's interest. The students have at least one hour of free play per day. Our schedule is very similar to that of our Preschool Class...the children are able to choose the area of the classroom they would like to play in and move freely from area to area. The various centers we offer are: library, table top activities (play doh, puzzles, open ended art etc), writing table, science center, blocks, manipulatives, sensory table, puppet theater and pretend center. After free play, we visit the bathroom (which is our own private bathrooms on the same level as the classroom), we then have snack, circle time, project time, outside time, second circle where a concept is introduced and explored (such as apples, pumpkins, hibernation, the five senses etc), then a concept related project is done in small group , then bathroom, lunch, enrichment time,  music and movement and story time.
We follow the Westport Community School calendar and are not open during school vacations,
major holidays or during the summer.

*We do ask that when you register your child at the Codimonk Nursery School, you are making the commitment for your child to attend as we limit our class size. Out of respect for our school program and for other local preschools we ask that you do not reserve a space for your child at multiple preschools.
Registration is done on a first come/first serve basis.

Please call or email us to schedule a tour.

Our Pre-Kindergarten options for 2025-2026 will include three day (M,W,F)
or five day (M,T,W,Th,F) options 9am-1pm.

Preschool Class

Our Preschool class is often a child's first experience in a school environment. The Preschool class is ideal for ages 2.9-4. Our goal is to nurture each child's love of learning and allow children to be explores of the world around them. Each week we focus on a different theme within the classroom and themes are often based upon the children's interest. The students have at least one hour of free play per day. The children are able to choose the area of the classroom they would like to explore and move from area to area freely at their own pace. The various centers we offer are: library, table top activities (play doh, puzzles, open ended art etc), writing table, science center, blocks, manipulatives, sensory table, puppet theater and pretend center. After free play, we visit the bathroom (which is our own private bathrooms on the same level as the classroom), then have snack, circle time, project time, outside time, music and movement and story time.
